Message:

(Muriel Day) showband singer who as been in the entertainment industry all her life and i am looking to get her appearences etc to get her back where she belongs and if you could help an old showband legend, i would be very interested and she would be delighted. Just a bit abou her below:

Muriel day belongs to an elite group of female vocalists like Dusty Springfield, Petula Clarke and Cilla Black. Not perhaps what you might expect from a humble girl from Newtownards, County Down. Irish singer Muriel Day is a special talent. Her beauty, sparkling personality and powerful, haunting voice make Muriel and her new single, “Shut up and Drive”, a force to be reckoned with.

It’s the sheer magnitude of Muriel’s talent that has endeared her to audiences for the last four decades. She’s impressed her fans over the years with a staggering three to four costume changes in each set, proving herself a dazzlingly natural stage presence at every turn. Many of her fans know and love her best for her appearance as the 1st female to represent Ireland in the 1969 Eurovision Song Contest in Madrid where she came fourth with “The Wages of Love”. But Muriel has been singing blues and jazz since the age of 15 with such bands as The Saints and the Dave Glover Showband, in venues across Ireland, UK, USA and for illustrious audiences including the likes of Playboy’s Hugh Heffner. Muriel can also add supporting the late Dusty Springfield among her long list of accolades.

In recent years, though, Muriel’s career and personal life has taken her in many new and exciting directions. Twice divorced and the one-time carer for her now deceased parents, she’s been the landlady of a busy gastro-pub, sold real estate in Canada and even set up a laser therapy clinic. But 2009 sees Muriel return to what she does best: singing. Her new single, Shut up and Drive, released Sept 2009, shows a real return to form. A vocal performance to die for, and an unforgettable tune influenced by the contemporary country and pop scenes, Shut up and Drive is bound to be setting radios alight throughout the summer. The song represents Muriel at her best: a woman who has loved, lost and lived. A woman to take to your hearts.

Is there anyone else out there who thinks linedancing is declining in every way? There are no new groups or individuals arriving on the linedance scene who can keep up to date with the new dances and then there is a large contingent who do not like CD nights, so they are few and far between and poorly supported anyway. The linedancers on the mainland don't know how lucky they are with the wide choice of groups they have who are bang up to date. Then when someone here tries to kickstart everything -ie David Sinfield and the LDAI-who arranged a night at Shortts with a new act and a visiting choreographer--no-one supported it !!! All in all, unless linedance functions try to cater for both country and more pop-type dancing tastes and find a way to incorporate the two- then the list of clubs on the events sheet will continue to decrease--there is nothing whatsoever wrong with doing old and favourite dances- they will always be with us-but we also need to be able to find venues, where with music provided by whatever means possible, we can dance the new dances before they pass on-Linedancing is so transient now-- COME ON----WHY DON'T WE JUST DANCE??

I have, believe it or not enjoyed myself playing in the country clubs, but I took the decision to go back and start playing my first love which of course is sixties music. So it will probably be music to some that I will no longer be doing the linedance venues with the exception of the Colorado in Newtownards. Maybe we will meet up in some other venues.

Once again may I thank everyone for a lot of happy memories especially Moville & Letterkenny.

May I wish you all a very Merry Xmas & a Happy & Prosperous New year.

IT WOULD BE NICE TO SEE AS MANY OF OUR FRIENDS AS POSSIBLE SO THAT WE CAN THANK THEM INDIVIDUALLY. NORMAL TIME 8PM-11.30PM.THE CLUB EVOLVED FROM A DAY ON A CARAVAN PARK GREEN ALMOST 13YRS AGO WHEN MARION AND MYSELF, JIM AND MADGE GRIERSON AND THE SANDY ROW COWBOY, WILLIAM WILKINSON HAD A BIT OF COUNTRY AND WESTERN MUSIC AND FUN. IT WAS AMAZING TO WATCH THE FUN-DAY GROW OVER A NUMBER OF YEARS TO AN ANNUAL EVENT WHICH HAD AT TIMES HUNDREDS OF PEOPLE, YOUNG AND OLD, HAVING A LOT OF FUN IN AID OF A VERY WORTHY CAUSE, N.I. HOSPICE, AND RAISING LOTS OF MONEY AT THE SAME TIME.
A BIG THANKYOU TO ALL THE GROUPS WHO PLAYED AT THE FUN-DAY OVER THE YEARS AND A VERY SPECIAL PAT ON THE BACK TO CHRIS BETTS AND BRIAN HORNER, HEARTLANDS AND BIG BILLY OF MISSOURI FOR THEIR PARTICULAR EFFORTS ON ALL THOSE DAYS BOTH RAINY AND SUNNY. THE OUTLAWS ALWAYS PROVIDED THEIR OWN SPECIAL ENTERTAINMENT FOR US AS ONLY THE OUTLAWS COULD.GUEST COMPERES, CATERERS, LINE-DANCE TEACHERS, THE LIST IS TOO LONG TO MENTION INDIVIDUALLY.
THE BLUES AND GREYS CAME INTO ITS OWN AS A REGULAR CLUB DIRECTLY FROM THOSE EARLY DAYS AND ENJOYED THE SUPPORT OF MANY THROUGHOUT THE YEARS AND WE ENJOYED A LOT OF GOOD COUNTRY AND WESTERN EVENINGS THANKS TO ALL WHO KEPT ON SUPPORTING US EVEN IN THE LEAN TIMES. THE DANCE CLASSES, THEIR TEACHERS AND THE GROUPS AND ALL WHO ATTENDED THE CLUB, HAVE LEFT US WITH SOME VERY PLEASANT MEMORIES, NOT TO MENTION A FEW CRACKING PHOTOS AND THE ODD HANGOVER. AGAIN, THE FUND RAISING CONTINUED IN AID OF THE N.I.HOSPICE. WE HAVE MADE MANY GOOD FRIENDS FROM ALL THOSE CLUB NIGHTS AND WE INTEND TO KEEP ON WITH THOSE FRIENDSHIPS AND TO SEE MANY OF YOU AT THE DIFFERENT CLUBS WE WILL BE AT.
TO EACH AND EVERY ONE OF YOU WE SAY THANK YOU AND WE WILL SEE YOU AGAIN SOON. KEEP IT COUNTRY.

Just to say I was at a great little Country Music concert in the McNeill Theatre in Larne last night. It was organised by Eugene O'Dornan in aid of Parkinson's Charity and Eugene was accompanied by Tony Kerr, Sharon Nixon and Joe Moore. All four were magnificent - they are of course all great singers. It was the first time I've seen Sharon Nixon live and all I can say is - Joni Harms, eat your heart out. Okay, I'm a big fan of Joni's but Sharon is Irelands answer and a very worthy one at that. She lit up the stage both visually and vocally.

Joe Moore displayed his usual versatility with a combination of Merle Haggard, George Jones and Rany Travis numbers. Joe is off to Australia shortly for a couple of months - lets hope it's not permanent Joe - we need you here.

I've heard Eugene and Tony many times, often in country clubs or at dances and you don't really appreciate thier vocal talents fully until you hear them in a theatre environment. These guys have superb voices. Their duet at the end "Sing me back home" was simply fantastic - a real treat for any country music fan.

I've got to mention the backing musical talent also - Stanley Carson on Lead Guitar was brilliant as was Chris Dallat on keyboard. Again, you only fully appreciate these guys in a theatre setting.

Congratulations to Eugene and all involved. I hope you raised lots of cash for the charity.

Just one question, "WHEN'S THE NEXT ONE?"

Press Release | 14 January 2008

Justin’s Cool Country Tour at Riverside

According to his bebo profile “The best way to describe singer/songwriter Justin McGurk's music is Cool Country with an edge, blending the old' the new, and the unexplored.” Now I have to admit I’m not a country music fan so for me his 10 years of experience and the fact he tours with Hal Ketchum, Bonnie Tyler, Cara Dillon, Bagatelle, The Bellemy Brothers, Collin Raye, and The Proclaimers tells me he has to be good.

That, and the style of country rockers he rubs shoulders with - Keith Urban, Kenny Chesney & Dierks Bentley. When Justin won TG4’s "Search For A New Country Music Star" in 2005, little did he realise that his subsequent trip to Nashville would be so successful. Following his appearance in Downtown Nashville, when he sang five numbers, members of the CMA offered him a spot on the main Riverfront Stage on the closing day of the festival.

New Album "The Other Side" featuring "Eyes of a child" was among Downtown Radio’s most requested playlist. Justin's current single "The Other Side" is currently play listed at all the major station across the country as of from OCT 08 so text or call your favourite station and request to hear The Other Side.

Justin is as “hot” (hot property in the music industry) as his county music is cool. Country Music Ireland TV’s reviewer Wes Piggott: (Irish Country, Seven Fm, Highland Fm) rates him and Wes knows a thing or two about country music. At www.jwpromotions.com/

Tickets for Justin’s Cool Country at Riverside Theatre Coleraine on Thursday 13 February at £16 from Box Office on 028 7032 3232 or online at www.riversidetheatre.org.uk

Touring to: Friday 6th Feb 09 – The Braid Arts Centre, Ballymena
Thursday 12th Feb 09 – The Courtyard Theatre, BallyEarl Arts Centre
Friday 13th Feb 09 – The Riverside Theatre, Coleraine
Friday 20th Feb 09 – The Burnavon Theatre, Cookstown
Friday 27th Feb 09- The Strule Arts Centre, Omagh
Saturday 28th Feb 09- The Marketplace Theatre, Armagh.

ENDS

For interviews or images contact: Sharon Kirk, Marketing & Development Officer, Riverside Theatre on 028 7032 3037 or s.kirk@ulster.ac.uk Riverside Theatre, Cromore Road, Coleraine, BT52 1SA.

Not forgetting Hugh Duddy for all the Country Club sheets. We shall have some new bands lined up for the coming year and hope we continue to bring country music to this part of Co. Antrim. Hoping to see you all again next year.
